Lot 1570 Imperial German Hunting Cutlass.
This Imperial Hirschfänger Hunting Cutlass – WKC is a really fine example. The16" blade is neatly etched on both sides, with detailed ornamentation featuring floral scroll work and military motifs. The etchings remain clear, and the blade is really nice, with light and minor spots and graying in some places. The blade ricasso has a stamped knight’s helmet WKC maker mark, indicating manufacture by the firm of Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen. The leather blade buffer pad is intact. The handle features a real stag grip with three brass acorns brass fittings, with deer hooves guard and clamshell type crossguard. The handle fittings show only light wear, with mellow age patina to the stag grip. Complete with its original leather covered scabbard. The brass scabbard fittings match the handle perfectly. Acorn styled frog stud. The scabbard leather is extremely well preserved, with minor wear and some small losses to the original surface.
